NEET Results Are Out: Beyond MBBS – Exploring the Many Pathways in Healthcare Education

Anand (Gujarat) [India], July 28: Every year, NEET results bring a mix of emotions. For some students, it’s the joy of securing a dream rank. For many others, it’s disappointment and uncertainty. Missing an MBBS seat often feels like missing the opportunity to build a career in healthcare.

But that perception needs to change.

Healthcare today is far bigger than a single profession or degree. Modern hospitals, research centres, rehabilitation clinics and community health programmes thrive because of multidisciplinary teams where doctors work alongside nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, laboratory experts, Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic practitioners, and several allied health professionals. Together, they deliver quality patient care.

This need has never been greater. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the world could face a shortage of nearly 10 million healthcare professionals by 2030, making it essential to build a strong workforce across every healthcare discipline, not just medicine.

India’s healthcare landscape is evolving rapidly. Rising life expectancy, lifestyle disorders, advances in medical technology, and growing awareness of preventive healthcare have transformed the way care is delivered. As the sector expands, so do opportunities for skilled professionals across Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Ayurveda, Homoeopathy and Allied Health Sciences.

Recognising this shift, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 advocates multidisciplinary education that prepares students for collaborative healthcare environments. Tomorrow’s healthcare professionals must not only excel in their own disciplines but also understand the value of teamwork in delivering holistic patient care.

CVM University has embraced this philosophy by creating an integrated healthcare ecosystem where programmes in Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Ayurveda, Homoeopathy and other health sciences exist within one multidisciplinary academic environment. This approach enables students to learn, collaborate and innovate together while preparing for the realities of modern healthcare.

One of the defining features of quality healthcare education today is experiential learning.

At CVM Nursing College, students build clinical confidence through the Advait Simulation Centre, where high-fidelity mannequins recreate real-life medical emergencies. Human cadaver dissection, smart classrooms and technology-enabled learning further strengthen practical skills before students enter clinical practice.

Students at the CVM Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital receive education aligned with the guidelines of the National Commission for Homoeopathy, combining classroom learning with clinical exposure and research to prepare competent practitioners in holistic healthcare.

Similarly, the G. J. Patel Institute of Ayurvedic Studies & Research integrates classical Ayurvedic knowledge with extensive patient care and clinical training, enabling students to appreciate the role of traditional medicine within India’s evolving healthcare system.

The scope of Pharmacy has also expanded significantly. Today’s pharmacists contribute to pharmaceutical manufacturing, biotechnology, drug development, clinical research and regulatory affairs. At the Indukaka Ipcowala College of Pharmacy, students benefit from advanced laboratories, research opportunities and industry engagement that prepare them for diverse career pathways.

Physiotherapy has emerged as one of the fastest-growing healthcare professions. At the Rita A. Patel Institute of Physiotherapy, students receive extensive clinical exposure and hands-on training that equips them to improve mobility, restore function and enhance quality of life for patients across all age groups.

Beyond these disciplines, allied healthcare professionals, including laboratory technologists, imaging specialists and emergency care professionals, form the backbone of every healthcare institution. Their expertise is indispensable to timely diagnosis, effective treatment and quality patient outcomes.

For students participating in NEET counselling, the most important message is this: your future should never be defined by a single examination or a single degree.

The right career is one that aligns with your interests, abilities and aspirations. Every healthcare profession contributes to the same larger mission of improving lives.

As India moves towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, the demand for skilled healthcare professionals across every discipline will continue to grow. The future belongs to collaborative healthcare teams, where doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, researchers and allied health professionals work together to build healthier communities.

At CVM University, the goal is not just to educate professionals but to nurture compassionate, competent and collaborative healthcare leaders ready to serve society.

Because building a healthier India begins with building a stronger healthcare ecosystem, and every healthcare professional has a vital role to play.
